On a personal level, it is painful for me to see you looking to the founder's words and trying to find a physical excuse for his behavior. What we know now about Maciel is that any good work that came out of the Legion was truly from God alone--not an "imperfect instrument." That is the real miracle--not that God can use an imperfect instrument, but that He can make grace abound where the vilest sin abounds.
It is up to the Legion now to show the world that it will proactively work to abolish all traces of Maciel's sin in its midst. Apologizing for its ad hominem attacks on all Maciel's accusers--for continuing to call them liars even after the communique--would be a start.

Legionaries and RC members don't know how to apologize because were always trained to defend.
And the best defense (to them) is attacking anyone who raises issues.
You can't point to St Teresa Benedicta of the Cross as a defense of the Holocaust, nor even St Maximilian Kolbe.
Well if he has - "at least" dixit L.C. - one daugther. It means he or his mistress were against abortion..
Carita Loreal
I find nothing positive in the above statement.
Maciel was wrong and obviously did evil things which can't be defended. It tarnishes LC and RC and it is a shame, but it does not take away the good. There is no defense of his evil, but it should not tarnish the innocent Priest, brothers, and concecrated who have given their lives for Christ to serve the church. This is now their cross, but they will be judged on what they do, not the founder. Understand that some of us never met him and are not in RC for Maciel, but for how the movement and the clergy have made us better Catholics and enhanced our families. I have faith the changes that are needed will be made according to the Pope and we can get on with serving the church. Those whom have been been hurt by Maciel or actions of the organizations he founded are victims and all good RC and LC members are sorry for your pain. In Christ
